‘‘ISTANBUL’’ WAS SELECTED AS THE GLOBAL CAPITAL OF INTELLIGENT TRANSPORTATION
The ‘‘ITS (Intelligent Transportation Systems) 2025 European Congress’’, which is an important congress in the field of intelligent transportation systems and sustainable mobility solutions, brought the thought leaders, entrepreneurs and experts from different cities of the world together. The Metropolitan Municipality of Istanbul (IMM), the host of the ITS 2026 European Congress to be held in 2026, participated in the congress to promote its smart city vision on the international platform together with its subsidiaries operating in the field of technology and transportation.
Acting in line with the vision of transforming Istanbul into a brand city among the world cities for establishing a fairer, greener, more creative and liveable Istanbul, subsidiaries of the Metropolitan Municipality of Istanbul that operate in the field of technology and transportation participated in the ITS 2025 European Congress held in Seville, Spain, and shared the smart urbanism, digital transformation and sustainable transportation solutions of Istanbul in the international arena.
The congress, which was organised with the participation of the subsidiary companies of Metropolitan Municipality of Istanbul, namely ISBAK, BELBIM, ISTTELKOM, ISPARK, Metro Istanbul, Istanbul Transportation and City Lines, came to the forefront with their strategic goals to promote the future-oriented urban management approach of Istanbul on a global scale. At the ITS Europe Congress, subsidiaries of the Metropolitan Municipality of Istanbul brought together global industry leaders and decision-makers with a wide range of activities ranging from intelligent transport systems that transform urban mobility to artificial intelligence-based solutions, from digital infrastructure projects to integrated service models. The multimodal, integrated and environmentally friendly transport strategies of Istanbul were conveyed to the representatives of the participating countries.
On the axis of ‘‘Green, resilient and integrated transportation’’, which constitutes the theme of this year’s ITS Europe Congress, the recent projects of Istanbul stood out. Innovative applications offered by Istanbul on topics such as sustainability, accessibility, safety and efficiency in the transformation of transport technologies attracted great interest in the exhibition area.
THE HOST OF THE 2026 EUROPEAN CONGRESS WILL BE ISTANBUL
The participation of Istanbul in the congress was not only limited to sharing existing intelligent transportation solutions, but also served as an important promotional tool ahead of the next ITS European Congress, which Istanbul will host between the 27th and 29th of April, 2026. Dr. Angelos Amditis, the Chairperson of ERTICO, announced to all participants that Istanbul has been selected as the host city for the next ITS European Congress. With the congress to be held in 2026, more than 3.000 participants representing more than 50 countries will be hosted in Istanbul, making Istanbul a global meeting point in the field of Intelligent Transport Systems. In addition to strengthening the position of Istanbul on a global scale, this congress will make significant contributions to the city economy, technology ecosystem and international collaborations.
ITS Europe Congress is held in a different city every year as a platform where innovation, sustainability and intelligent technologies that shape the future of the transportation sector are discussed, shared and developed. Hosted by Istanbul in 2026, the ITS European Congress will bring together thought leaders, technology developers and city visionaries from around the world and accelerate the global spread of smart and sustainable urbanism. Through this major organisation, Istanbul will not only inspire the cities of the future, but will also become the centre of international knowledge sharing and technology transfer.
