IMM LAUNCHES SIGN LANGUAGE-SUPPORTED SOLUTION CENTER SERVICE
Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) has launched the “Accessible Istanbul” project for deaf, hard-of-hearing, and speech-impaired individuals. This initiative, which facilitates access to public services, enables IMM 153 Solution Centers to provide video call services in Turkish Sign Language.
IMM implemented this significant project in collaboration with its departments and subsidiaries. The “Accessible Istanbul” service was introduced with the joint efforts of the IMM Press and Public Relations, Social Services, and Information Technology Departments, along with İSTTELKOM AŞ and Istanbul Senin. By eliminating a major communication barrier, the new service makes the IMM Solution Center more accessible for individuals who are deaf, hard-of-hearing, or speech-impaired. Thanks to personnel proficient in Turkish Sign Language, users can now make video calls to IMM 153 Solution Centers to submit requests and find solutions to their issues.
A MORE ACCESSIBLE CITY
The Accessible Istanbul project provides services to individuals who are deaf, hard-of-hearing, or speech-impaired through the IMM digital platform, Istanbul Senin mobile application. This digital platform accelerates access to public services and offers an inclusive solution, ensuring that all residents of the city can reach services more easily.
A SOCIAL BENEFIT-FOCUSED INITIATIVE FROM IMM
The sign language-supported call center service aims to facilitate access to IMM services for individuals who are deaf, hard-of-hearing, or speech-impaired, while also promoting social equality. Additionally, by leveraging technology for social benefit, it contributes to IMM’s smart city vision.
Individuals who wish to benefit from this service must apply to ÖZGEM, which has 23 branches across Istanbul, with a disability report indicating a 40% or higher impairment. Once the registration process is completed, registered individuals can access the Solution Center services via the Istanbul Senin mobile application.
