THE STRATEGIC TRANSFORMATION JOURNEY OF ISTTELKOM

ISTTELKOM AŞ, a subsidiary of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB), is continuing to improve the quality of life of Istanbulites thanks to its strategic transformation in the field of technology and digitalisation in the last 5 years.

Established to provide Telecommunication Infrastructure Services, ISTTELKOM AŞ evolved into a System Integrator that can provide solutions to the information technologies and communication infrastructure needs of all institutions in line with its vision for the period 2019 – 2024.

Providing services in many different areas such as Fibre Infrastructure, Data Centre, Cyber Security, Radio, Wi-Fi, System Integration, Managed Services and Next Generation Technologies, ISTTELKOM pioneered the construction of the telecommunication infrastructure of the Smart City in Istanbul by leading the digital transformation projects of especially public institutions.

NIHAT NARIN, IBB Subsidiaries Technology Group President and General Manager of ISTTELKOM AŞ, described the strategic change in this process in the following words:

“At ISTTELKOM, where we took office at a time when macroeconomic hardships were being felt intensely, we continued our activities by diversifying our business areas in order to take Istanbul to the positions it deserves in the field of communication in line with the responsibility we bear and the goals we set. During this period, we undertook many key projects and works together with the Department of Information Technologies, and while increasing the operational efficiency of institutions with the end-to-end solutions we offer, we provided strong savings to the IBB Group with economies of scale. We expanded the fibre network in Istanbul and built a new 600 KM communication infrastructure. We increased the actual capacity of the IBB Data Centre 9 times and increased the number of organisations served from 16 to 33. We established the IBB Informatics Control Centre and launched a project called the IBB Disaster Recovery Centre in case of disasters. We increased the number of IBB Wi-Fi Users from 2.9 million to 5.5 million and the number of Access Points from 7 thousand to 11 thousand. We relaunched the internet service in the subways. We introduced internet service in M2, M8, F4 Lines and 130 metro stations. Soon, we aim to cover the M4 (Kadıköy-Sabiha Gökçen Airport) Line as well. On the other hand, commercially, we achieved the highest revenue and profitability in the company’s history by growing company revenues by approximately 10 times. As a new generation telecommunications company, we succeeded in this period, which we left behind with strong operational and financial results, thanks to our corporate strategic transformation.”

NARIN continued his words as follows: “While carrying out all these operations, within the scope of social responsibility, we increased the ratio of the female managers up to 24% and we are proud to have contributed to the employment of 147 young new graduates under the umbrella of the project titled “IBB Tech Gelecek”, which we have implemented together with the subsidiary companies of the technology group. Also, the fact that our ranking among the 500 IT Companies increases every year makes us very happy and motivated.”

NARIN concluded his words by saying that they intend to continue their investments to increase the technological quality of life of all our stakeholders and citizens in the future period.
